IF YOU WISH TO DONATE, PLEASE DO SO ON THIS PAGE. THANK YOU!!
About two years ago at the age of 62, Geoff's sister Kathy was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s disease and has been a big part of our motivation for this project.
We walked our first Camino together across northern Spain in 2013, as a way of preparing ourselves for retirement. We have returned to Santiago de Compostela a few times now, and walked through various different countries every year since. For each Camino or walk, there has been a purpose, but none more important than our upcoming Camino. Beginning September 21, 2018, World Alzheimer’s Day, we will begin our Camino for Alzheimer Awareness.
We are very pleased that Kathy and her husband Bob will join us on September 26th, with Kathy walking 10-12 kilometres each day for 5 days and Bob providing support by car.
Initially, we will walk 800 km along the Chemin d'Arles (France) which changes to the Camino Aragonés as we pass over the Pyrenees and into Spain. We will begin our journey together at Lodève, in the south east of France. In Spain, at Puente la Reina, Annemarie will complete her Camino and Geoff plans to continue onwards towards Santiago de Compostela arriving sometime in mid November, hopefully before his Schengen Visa expires.
We will be blogging daily about our Camino experience and linking them with parallels between Alzheimer’s and our journey. We invite you to travel along with us on our blog where you will find Geoff’s photographs, our musings and some of Annemarie’s poetry, at:

We are covering all expenses of this Camino ourselves, and are asking for donations to the Alzheimer Society via the Donate Now link to the right on this page. All funds raised will go directly to support the range of services that the Alzheimer Society provides for people impacted by this disease, both those with the disease and those who support them. You can find out how these funds will be used on the Alzheimer Society of BC homepage.
As we walk our Camino for Alzheimer Awareness we hope that you will feel moved to support us by contributing to the Alzheimer Society. You can also provide much needed support by adding your own comments and experiences in the "Comments" section at the bottom of each daily post on our blog.
In the end, perhaps you will be inspired to follow in our footsteps creating your own Journey for Alzheimer Awareness.
