Our Penticton Walk for Alzheimers date has been set, September 28th from 10am to 12pm. Come and donate, then walk from the Penticton Peach to the SS Sicamous and back to help raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer's research.
Our bake sale will be at Cherry Lane Mall on October 19th from 9am to 4pm. Please bring donated goods to Cherry Lane Mall in front of Sangsters and be ready to provide the following information for our item cards: What it is, any allergens, if it's for a specific diet (vegan, gluten free, etc.). We'll have some recipe cards to make labels.
My personal story.... 3 of 4 grandparents had Alzheimer's and it's tough watching those you love deteriorate over time. They forget who you are, how to take care of themselves and it's not fun to see. Thousands like my grandparents are dealing with Alzheimer's and dementia and through your support we can fund research and awareness so people can better understand what Alzheimer's is and how we can help our loved ones.
One granddad died at 78, my other granddad at 79 and my grandma at 88. Alzheimer's doesn't know an age or gender, it can be something that takes a while to affect people or it can be faster acting. It's up to us to spread the word and help those who are affected.
