Welcome to My Personal Page
My Friend, Jennifer Dowdeswell inspired me to raise awareness for the Alzheimer's Society of BC. This is the second time I've participated in the Grouse Grind climb event. On September 30, 2018, a whole bunch of motivated climbers and volunteers will gather to climb the Grind. This event will raise awareness and funds to support those who are afflicted and their support network.
I have a personal connection with Alzheimer's. My grandfather died at an early age from this illness. As with many cognitive and mental illnesses, it's a hard thing to deal with, as it's not a visible injury/disease. It is debilitating nontheless, and takes a huge tole on family and support networks.
I have set a modest goal of raising $250 for this event. If you can spare the cost of a latte or two, I would be honoured to accept the donation on behalf of the Alzheimer's society and the people they support.
(It's also a charitable organization, so tax deduction ;-)
Here are some examples of the good that the fund raisig will go towards.
• $26 connects someone affected by dementia to knowledge and understanding through a First Link® support call.
• $56 allows someone to attend a two-hour dementia education session, opening the door to a better understanding of dementia and the road ahead.
• $100 provides someone in the early stages of dementia with the opportunity to join others for five hours of Minds in Motion®, a social and fitness program.
• $500 funds someone to attend a dementia support group for a year, so they can share their experiences and learn from others.
