Welcome to Leigh's Page for Team Fran
On September 30, 2018, we will hike the Grouse Grind in support of the Alzheimer Society of B.C. Climb for Alzheimer’s is a team oriented fitness fundraising experience. With your generosity, we can make a difference to estimated 70,000 British Columbians who are currently affected by Alzheimer disease and related dementias.
'Team Fran' is dedicated to raising funds and awareness on behalf of our Mom - Fran McCarley - who has been living with Alzheimer's disease for the past 15 years. She resides at Eden Gardens (formerly Travellers Lodge) in Nanaimo, and is loved and cared for by a dedicated team including her friend/carer Mary. Many of you know Fran from her years of volunteering with Cubs, Literacy Nanaimo, Therapeutic Riding (ETRA), Meals on Wheels, SPCA, Public Health (flu clinics) to name a few of her many interests. Her dedication to her family and her community are well-known, and she is a well-loved Mom; she would be embarassed that we named our team after her but would have a good laugh at the thought of her kids making this trek on her behalf (particularly when we each recall being the bane of her existence during our teenage/early adult years).
Please join us in ending the stigma of Alzheimer’s disease as it isn't just about our parents' generation – it's about ours. Thank you again and we invite you all on the top at our Summit Celebration to cheer us on as we complete our journey!
