Team Capilano Care Centre
Hello and welcome to Team Capilano Care Centre's fundraising page for the Climb for Alzheimer's!
Team Capilano Care Centre is honoured and excited to be fundraising for such a worthy cause that is near and dear to our hearts. Approximately 80% of the residents that reside at Capilano Care Centre have a diagnosis of dementia, so we see the far reaching impacts of this disease on a daily basis.
Our team (so far!) is made up of 10 residents and 5 staff from the care centre. The residents that are participating in the Summit Stroll on September 24th are also the residents who participate in our own "Capilano Grouse Grind" program.
We have been running the “Capilano Grouse Grind” program since 2011 as part of our restorative care program. The program starts in the summer, and the participating residents climb a set of 69 stairs located a block away from the home approximately once or twice a week.
In 2013, we climbed a total of 15,280 steps with a total of 27 residents participating in July & August. In 2014, we climbed a total of 27,462 steps. For more stats, check out some of the profile pages of our residents who are participating!
So on September 24th, the residents will complete the "Summit Stroll" as part of the Climb for Alzheimer's event at Grouse Mountain to raise money and awareness for the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia.
By making a donation to our team, you are helping to make a difference to the more than 70,000 British Columbians who are currently affected by Alzheimer disease and related dementias.
Please make a donation today and help us reach our fundraising goal!
